Buying a Plasma TV – What to look for

Buying a Plasma TV means looking beyond the brand, and deciding which product to buy based on one's requirements. Buying one purely because the brand is a well known one might easily turn out to be a bad decision, since each TV has its own strengths and weaknesses. Following is a list of some of the features that need to be taken care of.

·         Glare – Buying Plasma TVs is a wise decision only when the room in which they are to be placed is a dark one, since they have a shiny surface, and keeping a plasma in a room with bright light can easily reduce the viewing pleasure, since the glare from the surroundings will be reflected on the screen.

·         Resolution – A plasma TV must have at least 720 or 1080 vertical lines of resolution. If the TV is to receive HD TV signals, or connect with a Blu-Ray player, then a 1080p TV is the best choice. This can be validated by visiting a shop and asking the retailer to play a Blu-Ray disc and seeing the display on a 720 and 1080p screen.

·         Contrast Ratio – A Plasma TV having a high contrast ratio will produce more realistic images. The lowest contrast ratio is 800:1, while the latest Plasma TVs offer a ratio up to 30,000:1
